Feel free to contact us with any other questions about living/working in China.

• I cannot speak Chinese. Is that a problem?

No, it is not a problem. Of course, there will be some language barriers to cross when you arrive in China, but you can teach here without knowing how to speak Chinese. All of our staff speak English to some extent, so you will be able to communicate with your colleagues. Students who come to learn expect to be immersed in English, so speaking Chinese is actually discouraged at the school. There is always a Chinese teaching assistant to help with giving instructions and translating if need be for younger students.

• Will I need to get any vaccinations before coming to China?

There are no mandatory vaccinations are all the schools are located in large cities. However it may be a good idea to get a shot for Hepatitis A & B and discuss other suggestions with your local doctor.

• Is it possible to send money home?

Yes, money can be easily exchanged and transferred to bank accounts around the world. We suggest you talk to your local bank before arriving to China to discuss options for sending money or withdrawing money while in China. There are some banks that can help you reduce fees as they work more internationally. We will also assist you in opening a bank account here in China. Lastly, of course there is Western Union, which is fast, but more expensive.

• Is there a dress code?

There is a uniform T-shirt that teachers are given and expected to wear when teaching classes. This must be accompanied by appropriate pants/skirts below/near the knee.

• Are there any opportunities for promotion?

Yes, promotions to head teacher and management positions are possible through hard work and great leadership potential. Also, resigning your contract after 1 year will lead to base salary increases every year.

• What will my accommodation be like?

You may rent your own apartment or find a roommate to live with if you’d like. Local realtors and WeChat groups can guide you to finding an apartment close to the school or within city centers, whichever you prefer. Price range varies from 1500 to 4000 RMB per month.
